A few kind words from the parents and students we work with.

Prep shouldn't cost them their childhood

In selective areas the pressure is always to “do more.” But the 11+ isn't won by whoever was drilled the longest — and a summer lost to prep your child never needed isn't a fair trade. Walking in blind to the format isn't fair either. The aim is the middle ground: enough that they're familiar and confident, not so much that they burn out.

You shouldn't have to choose between a fair shot and a happy childhood

The noise around the 11+ is relentless, and most of it lands on you, not your child. You don't need to become an expert in GL versus CEM, or guess what “enough” looks like — that's our job. Tell us your target school and we'll match you with a vetted online tutor covering that exam, so you can stop second-guessing and your child can just get on with it.

Why online tutoring works for 11+ families

All the preparation, none of the logistics — so the extra academic work fits around your family's life instead of taking it over.

Learn when it suits you

You book from your tutor’s real availability — many offer evening and weekend slots — so sessions fit around school, hobbies and family life, with no dash across town after the school day.

No travelling, for anyone

No traffic jams, roadworks or the after-school dash to a tutor’s house — and no tidying up before a visitor arrives.

Safeguarding built in

Every session runs in a managed online classroom with a vetted, DBS-checked tutor, and your child stays at home with you nearby — no stranger in the house, no unfamiliar venue.

More time for a balanced childhood

The hours you’d otherwise lose to travel go back into family time, sport and downtime — so the extra academic work doesn’t crowd out everything else.

I gained qualified teacher status in 1995 with a PGCE from Manchester University after studying my degree in Education and History at Oxford Brookes University. I gained my first teaching post immediately and have taught in a variety of primary and middle schools throughout North West England. I have taught in all year groups from Early Years to Year 8. In 2008 I decided to also become a private tutor, in addition to working in schools, and now have many years experience in that role. My approach to private tuition is to provide a safe learning environment that appeals to tutees of all ages. As a mum of two grown up children, I appreciate how important this is. I absolutely love getting to know my tutees and their families and understand the concerns that parents feel when engaging a private tutor. My testimonials reflect that I approach each tutee with professionalism, sensitivity and a desire to ensure they achieve their goals.

I am a highly experienced teacher with over 21 years in education, working with students from Reception through to Year 12. My specialism is in Key Stage 2, with a strong focus on Maths, English, and 11+ preparation.

I have a proven track record of helping children build secure foundations and develop the skills and confidence they need to progress successfully through school and beyond. Whether your child needs support catching up, stretching further, or preparing for entrance exams, I tailor each session to their individual needs and learning style.

I am passionate about making learning engaging, accessible, and enjoyable. I believe that confidence is at the heart of success, particularly in Maths and English, and I work closely with each child to help them feel capable, motivated, and proud of their progress.

I also have extensive experience supporting children with additional needs, including ADHD and ASD, as well as those who may find traditional classroom settings challenging. I provide a calm, structured, and supportive environment where children feel safe, understood, and able to thrive.

My aim is not only to improve academic outcomes, but to help every child develop a positive relationship with learning that will stay with them long term.

I am an experienced teacher with a wealth of expertise supporting and nurturing young people. With over 8 years of teaching experience, specialising in GCSE and A-Level Chemistry, I am passionate about helping students build confidence in the subject while feeling supported as they develop a deeper understanding of the subject.

Alongside my teaching, I have also been part of the pastoral team in a boarding house, where I worked as an Assistant Housemistress. This role gave me valuable experience supporting young people not only academically, but also personally, helping them navigate the many challenges that school and modern life can present.

As a parent of four children, I understand first-hand the pressures that today’s society can place on young people and their families. This allows me to empathise with students and appreciate the many aspects of their lives that can affect both their learning and wellbeing.

I strongly believe that every child is unique, and that education is not a one-size-fits-all approach. I take the time to understand each student’s individual needs and learning style, tailoring my teaching to suit them. My aim is to create a calm, supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, growing in confidence, and reaching their full potential.

I am trained as a languages specialist-particularly Spanish and French through to A-Level. In addition, latterly I have a variety of experience teaching English, Maths and wider subjects across the curriculum at primary level which I thoroughly enjoy.

As well as languages expertise across the age ranges I now also specialise in helping primary pupils build the confidence, comprehension and reasoning skills, particularly in relation to 11+ success.

As an experienced teacher and tutor with a background spanning both primary and secondary education, I provide personalised support in Spanish, French and English, as well as verbal reasoning and literacy-based 11+ preparation.

My teaching approach combines structured learning with encouragement and confidence-building, helping children feel secure, motivated and well prepared-both for public exams and for the transition to secondary education.

Lessons are tailored carefully to each pupil’s strengths, learning style and goals, with a focus on developing strong comprehension, vocabulary, analytical reading and exam technique skills in a calm and supportive environment.

I believe children make the best progress when they feel both challenged and encouraged, and I work closely with families to ensure tutoring remains positive, engaging and effective.

After graduating from Exeter University I worked in finance and marketing before completing a PGCE in MFL. I am also an avid musician/songwriter, tennis and padel player, and a serious beach lover!

With three children of my own a holistic education is very important to me, meaning that although the academic side is important, life education is equally so. As a former Form Tutor and Personal Tutor I pride myself on working closely with students to guide them in the right direction and be a listening ear in a time of need.

I am very much a people person and love to work with young people, sharing advice and skills with my students in an ever-changing world that can be very challenging to navigate.

What the 11+ involves — and how to prepare without the panic

The 11+ is the entrance exam used by grammar schools and some independent schools to select pupils for Year 7. Most exams test four areas: Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Maths and English build on what your child already does at primary school, but reasoning is often new — many children meet Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning for the first time when they start preparing. There are two main exam providers, GL Assessment and CEM, and the format varies by region and by the schools you're applying to, which is why it helps to know your target school before you begin.

Most families start in Year 5, around a year before the September exam, leaving room for steady, low-pressure practice rather than a last-minute scramble. That said, focused preparation in Year 6 can still make a real difference, particularly in Maths and English. There's no single right amount: the goal is for your child to walk in familiar with the format and quietly confident — not worn out by months of drilling.

How you prepare matters as much as when. All our tutoring is online, so prep fits around school and family life with no travelling either way. Some children do best with one-to-one online tutoring shaped entirely around them; others thrive in a small online group class, which keeps momentum going between sessions and sits at a lower price point. Many families use a mix. Whichever route you choose, our tutors are DBS-checked, interviewed by us personally, and cover all four components for both GL Assessment and CEM. You pay per session with no subscription, and you can book a free intro call first to talk through where your child is and what proportionate preparation looks like for them.

A grammar place suits some children and not others, and a good tutor will tell you so. The aim is never to buy an advantage — it's to give your child a fair, calm shot at the 11+, with their childhood and confidence intact.

Frequently asked — 11+ prep

Not every child does, and we'll never pretend otherwise. The 11+ tests Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning alongside Maths and English — and reasoning is something many children meet for the first time when they start preparing, so most benefit from getting familiar with the format. But “familiar and confident” is the goal, not years of drilling. The best way to decide is a free intro call: tell us your target school and where your child is now, and a tutor will give you a straight answer on what's proportionate.
