Sue Thraves
I gained qualified teacher status in 1995 with a PGCE from Manchester University after studying my degree in Education and History at Oxford Brookes University. I gained my first teaching post immediately and have taught in a variety of primary and middle schools throughout North West England. I have taught in all year groups from Early Years to Year 8. In 2008 I decided to also become a private tutor, in addition to working in schools, and now have many years experience in that role. My approach to private tuition is to provide a safe learning environment that appeals to tutees of all ages. As a mum of two grown up children, I appreciate how important this is. I absolutely love getting to know my tutees and their families and understand the concerns that parents feel when engaging a private tutor. My testimonials reflect that I approach each tutee with professionalism, sensitivity and a desire to ensure they achieve their goals.
Teaching Experience
In 2023 I decided to leave the classroom to focus full time on delivering quality tuition. My years of experience teaching in schools proved invaluable. I had already established a wide client base of tutees locally and the majority of my tutoring leads came from personal recommendations from former and existing clients. I aim to make each session highly personalised to meet the needs of each client. The first session is always a baseline assessment to determine the gaps in learning. Following on from this, I then devise a programme of study to overcome these gaps. I tutor students in Maths and English up to year 9 and more specifically 11 plus, 13 plus and common exam preparation for independent grammar schools. I am now an expert in GL, CEM and ISEB exam requirements and over the last five years have achieved a 100 percent success rate for my students. I offer face to face tutoring in my purpose built classroom and online tutoring. I have clients in China, the UAE and the UK and I am competent at using a variety of platforms including Zoom, Teams and Classin.
