Tom Johnson
Hi, I’m Tom, a qualified primary school teacher with experience since 2018, most of which has been spent teaching in Year 6. This has given me a strong understanding of the KS2 curriculum and the expectations around SATs, as well as how to support pupils as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.
I offer calm, structured, and engaging tuition sessions that are carefully tailored to each child’s individual needs. I take the time to identify areas for development and plan purposeful lessons that build confidence as well as academic skills. My approach is adaptive, meaning I adjust sessions in response to each pupil’s progress to ensure they get the most out of every lesson.
I aim to create a supportive learning environment where children feel comfortable, motivated, and ready to succeed.
Teaching Experience
I began my career in education in 2011, working as a Teaching Assistant across a range of settings. During this time, I gained valuable experience supporting pupils in SEND provisions, secondary schools, and pastoral roles, developing a well-rounded understanding of how to support children with a variety of needs.
In 2018, I qualified as a primary school teacher and have since been teaching in a primary school in Crawley. In this role, I have worked with a diverse range of pupils, including those with SEND, EAL learners, and children working at greater depth, allowing me to confidently adapt my teaching to suit different abilities and learning styles.
Alongside my classroom teaching, I have been providing private tuition since 2019, delivering both online and face-to-face sessions. This has further strengthened my ability to tailor learning, build strong relationships with pupils, and support them in making measurable progress.
Education
I hold a 2:1 degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of Chichester (2011), which developed my understanding of motivation, mindset, and how individuals learn and perform at their best.
I went on to complete a PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Chichester in 2018, achieving Master’s level accreditation. This provided me with strong foundations in pedagogy, curriculum knowledge, and effective teaching strategies across the primary age range.
